Qatar reserves right to respond, says PM on Israel’s strike in Doha

Date:

Qatar Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani warned his country reserved the right to respond to Israel’s deadly attack on Hamas in Doha on Tuesday, calling it a “pivotal moment” for the region.”Qatar… reserves the right to respond to this blatant attack,” the PM told a press conference.

“We believe that today we have reached a pivotal moment. There must be a response from the entire region to such barbaric actions,” he added.

Qatar also condemned ‘cowardly Israeli attack’ on Hamas headquarters in Doha and called it a violation of international law.
Israel launched an attack on Hamas leaders in Qatar on Tuesday (September 9), expanding its campaign against the Palestinian militant group.Israeli officials told Reuters the strike was aimed at top Hamas leaders including Khalil al-Hayya, its exiled Gaza chief and top negotiator. Two Hamas sources told Reuters that Hamas officials in the ceasefire negotiating team survived the attack.

A member of Qatar’s Internal Security Force was also killed by the Israeli strike and others were wounded, Qatar’s Interior Ministry said.

As the strike in Qatar threatens to derail ceasefire talks, Israel is gearing up for a major offensive aimed at taking over Gaza City. That escalation has been met with heavy international condemnation and opposition within Israel from those who fear it will doom the remaining hostages.

The UN Security Council scheduled an emergency meeting for Wednesday at the request of elected council members Algeria, Pakistan and Somalia.
