Reliance to set up manufacturing hub worth ₹1,156 crore in Tamil Nadu

Date:

Reliance Industries Limited will invest ₹1,156 crore to set up an integrated manufacturing facility for its consumer products division in Tamil Nadu, the state’s industries minister announced on social media.

“Reliance Consumer Products Limited has chosen Tamil Nadu for its next big unit. The company will invest 1,156 crore to set up an integrated manufacturing facility at SIPCOT Allikulam Industrial Park,” Industries minister TRB Rajaa posted on social media platform X. “Another FMCG major chooses Tamil Nadu!”

The company plans on building a 60-acre manufacturing unit to produce a wide range of products like regional snacks such as biscuits, spices, wheat flour, edible oil and more.

The minister claimed it will employ more than 2,000 people over the next five years.

Reliance Consumer Products Limited is one of the fastest-growing businesses of the conglomerate. During its annual general meeting in August, the company said it plans on restructuring the consumer products business by making it a direct subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited to sharpen focus.

The latest announcement to set up a manufacturing hub in Tamil Nadu comes as the state has been rallying to bring more investment and to drive local employment opportunities.

Earlier this week, electronics manufacturing company ASM Technologies Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state  government to invest ₹250 crore and expand its design-led manufacturing capabilities in the Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sector. ASM Technologies will acquire 5 acres of land from the Tamil Nadu government to set up a state-of-the-art design facility.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin too went on a week-long trip to Germany and England and returned with claims of having secured investment commitments worth ₹15,516 crore.

At the time, Stalin announced that 33 MoUs were signed with 10 new industries and 17 existing ones, which he claimed would generate 17,613 jobs in Tamil Nadu.
