“Called on President Xi Jinping this morning in Beijing along with my fellow SCO Foreign Ministers,” Jaishankar said on X (formerly Twitter). “Apprised President Xi of the recent development of our bilateral ties. Value the guidance of our leaders in that regard,” he added.

Jaishankar – Wang Yi Meeting
Earlier on July 14, Jaishankar held a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and discussed about the long-term approach in the Indo-Sino relations, including mitigating the border-related issues.

He called for normalisation in the people-to-people exchanges and avoiding restrictive trade measures and hurdles. “Stable and constructive ties between India and China are not only to our benefit, but that of the world as well. This is best done by handling relations on the basis of mutual respect, mutual interest and mutual sensitivity,” Jaishankar said.
“We have also earlier agreed that differences should not become disputes, nor should competition ever become conflict,” he added.
The Indian Foreign Minister also stated that India hopes “zero tolerance for terrorism” will be strongly upheld during the SCO meeting.

After meeting Yi, Jaishankar also held a meeting with International Department of the Chinese Communist Party (IDCPC) member Liu Jianchao where they discussed the changing global order and a “constructive India-China relationship” in the multipolar horizons of the world.
The IDCPC is also known as the International Liaison Department (ILD), which is in charge of establishing and maintaining relations with foreign political parties and other foreign organisations.

Significance of Jaishankar’s SCO meeting
The SCO FM meeting holds importance for India as during the SCO meeting of the Defence Ministers, the Organisation did not mention the Pahalgam terror attacks of April 22 in its joint statement, which resulted in the Defence Minister Rajnath Singh refusing to be its signatory.
It will be significant to witness what are the discussions being held at the meeting and whether the SCO will call out terrorism and its perpetrators.
