Sigachi Industries Ltd., in an exchange filing on Wednesday, July 2, has confirmed the death of 40 employees in the accident that took place at its Telangana facility on Monday.The Pashamylaram unit accident has also resulted in injuries to 33 employees, Sigachi said in its official statement.
“Since the time of the accident, we have been coordinating the emergency response, family support, and extending cooperation with the investigation and compliance efforts,” Sigachi wrote in its statement, adding that it has committed to an ex-gratia compensation of ₹1 crore to the family of the deceased, while those injured will receive full medical and rehabilitation.
Sigachi has also gone on to clarify that the accident was not caused by a reactor explosion the plant, as suggested in some media repots, although it added that results of the investigation are still awaited.”We will continue to send updates as we receive information from the investigations,” Sigachi said, adding that the plant operations will remain temporarily suspended for nearly 90 days.

Shares of Sigachi Industries are currently trading 7% lower at ₹42.93. The stock is down for the fifth day in a row and has declined 23% in the last three trading sessions.
