Charin Gopatta, Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, told Reuters that the gunman took his own life.

However, the police are investigating whether the mass shooting has “any possible link” with the border clashes between Thailand and Cambodia, per AFP reports.
Thailand and Cambodia have been clashing at the border for several over a long-standing border dispute. Tensions escalated after a Cambodian soldier was shot in May 2025. Both countries have since downgraded their diplomatic ties and engaged in gunfire exchanges, shelling and rocket fire, disrupting normal life for villagers along the border.
