Stock market holiday | BSE, NSE to remain shut today on account of Mahashivratri

Stock markets in India, including the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE) are closed on Wednesday, February 26, on account of Mahashivratri.Currency derivatives segment trading is suspended on Wednesday as well. The commodity market is closed in the morning session and will reopen at 5pm for trading.

Hence, there will be no trading in the equity, SLB and equity derivative segments on February 26.

Mahashivratri is one of the most significant festivals in Hinduism as it honours the marriage of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.On this day, banks, courts, schools, stock markets and other public institutions are usually closed in more than a dozen states.

According to the reserve bank of India’s Public Holiday Calendar, States like Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir, Utar Pradesh, Karala, Karala, Chhatstisgarh, Jharkhand, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, And Karnataka will observe a bank holiday on Mahashivratri 2025.

On another note, in the previous trade session on Tuesday, February 25, Nifty 50 ended with minor losses at 22,547.55, while Sensex ended in the green at 74,602.12.
