Stock Market Holiday today: NSE, BSE remain closed for Guru Nanak Jayanti

Stock markets in India are closed on Wednesday, November 5, for Guru Nanak Jayanti, also known as Gurpurab. Trading on leading stock exchanges, the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and BSE, are suspended on this day on account of the festive holiday.All market operations, including equity, derivatives, securities lending and borrowing, and currency derivatives, are suspended for the day, according to the NSE holiday calendar.

The next trading holiday falls on December 25 on account of Christmas, as per the holiday calendar.

Apart from the scheduled holidays, the stock markets in India remain closed on all Saturdays and Sundays.Guru Nanak Jayanti marks the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Sikh Guru and founder of Sikhism. The festival marks the celebration of his spiritual legacy and the teachings of equality, peace and devotion. It falls on Kartik Purnima, the full moon day in the Hindu month of Kartik, which usually corresponds to November as per the English calendar.

In total, the exchanges have announced 14 stock market holidays for 2025, excluding regular weekend closures on Saturdays and Sundays.

In addition to the stock market holiday, banks in several states and Union Territories (UTs) will also remain closed on November 5 due to Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti and other regional festivals.
