It has also agreed to hear the pleas challenging the cap on petrol and diesel vehicles in NCR. In 2018, the Supreme Court had put a 10-year cap on diesel and 15-year cap on petrol vehicles in NCR.
The Delhi government had challenged the blanket ban on ‘end-of-life’ vehicles.
The Supreme Court issued notices to the Centre and the Commission of Air Quality Management (CAQM).It will hear the case next after four weeks.
As per government figures, Delhi has around 6.2 million end-of-life vehicles, including 4.1 million two-wheelers. Meanwhile, the wider NCR region has around 4.4 million such vehicles, mainly concentrated in high-density urban areas.
The Nifty Auto index ended the previous session 0.6% up. Barring Maruti Suzuki, Hero MotoCorp, M&M, and Tata Motors, the remaining 10 stocks in the index ended with losses.
