Tata Trent MD P Venkatesulu says ‘demand is never linear, we faced challenges too’

Date:

P Venkatesulu, Managing Director of Tata Trent, remains optimistic about India’s consumer market despite its evolving nature. Speaking to CNBC-TV18, he emphasised that demand varies across markets and is never linear. While Trent has faced challenges over the past 10-15 years, he is confident about its future, describing India’s consumer space as “never less interesting.”
Venkatesulu expressed enthusiasm for Trent’s brands—Westside, Zudio, and Star—calling them key growth engines, with Zudio standing out. On the grocery retail segment, he noted that Star will be built using the same strategy as the company’s fashion business. He also pointed to the early success of Zudio Beauty, which, along with innerwear and footwear, accounts for 20% of Zudio’s business. “Beauty is material and exciting for us,” he stated.
