Vaibhav Taneja, the Indian-origin Chief Financial Officer of Tesla, has been named treasurer of the America Party—Elon Musk’s newly launched political platform aimed at disrupting the US two-party system. The party’s formation was revealed in official documents filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) on Sunday, following Musk’s public rift with former President Donald Trump and the Republican Party over the so-called “Big, Beautiful Bill.”The FEC filing lists the America Party’s headquarters at 1 Rocker Road in Hawthorne, California. Elon Musk is identified as the party’s sole candidate, while Taneja is named both treasurer and custodian of records.A Texas address is associated with Taneja in the paperwork, which has since circulated widely on social media.
Taneja has been a key figure in Tesla’s financial leadership, stepping into the CFO role in August 2023 after Zach Kirkhorn’s departure. He joined Tesla in 2017 through its acquisition of SolarCity and has held several senior roles, including Chief Accounting Officer and Corporate Controller.
Prior to Tesla, Taneja spent nearly 17 years at PricewaterhouseCoopers, advising major corporations on financial strategy and regulatory compliance. His appointment underscores Musk’s reliance on trusted financial leadership as he enters the political arena. Also Read: Piyush Goyal: FTAs will bring duty-free access to new markets, two-way trade with duty cuts across sectors
