‘Time to make things right’: Zelenskyy seeks fresh start after Trump fallout

Date:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday, March 4, described his recent clash with former US President Donald Trump as “regrettable” and called for constructive cooperation to achieve lasting peace.“Our meeting in Washington, at the White House on Friday, did not go the way it was supposed to be. It is regrettable that it happened this way. It is time to make things right. We would like future cooperation and communication to be constructive,” Zelenskyy wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Reaffirming Ukraine’s commitment to ending the war, Zelenskyy said his country was ready for negotiations and that no one wanted peace more than Ukrainians.

These included the release of prisoners, an immediate ban on missile and drone strikes targeting civilian infrastructure, and a truce at sea—provided Russia reciprocates.

Zelenskyy also expressed gratitude for US support, particularly recalling when Trump provided Javelin missiles to Ukraine, which he said marked a turning point.

On Ukraine’s security and resource agreements, he stressed Kyiv’s willingness to proceed swiftly. “Regarding the agreement on minerals and security, Ukraine is ready to sign it at any time and in any convenient format. We see this agreement as a step toward greater security and solid security guarantees, and I truly hope it will work effectively,” he said.
