Titagarh Rail Systems bags ₹2,481 crore Mumbai Metro line 5 order from MMRDA

Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd on Friday (October 31) said it has received a letter of acceptance (LOA) on Friday, October 31, from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for the design, manufacture, supply, installation, and commissioning of advanced metro systems for the Mumbai Metro Line 5 project.

The order, valued at ₹2,481 crore, covers both Phase 1 (Kapur Bawdi–Kasheli Dhamankar Naka) and Phase 2 (Dhamankar Naka–Bhiwandi–Kalyan APMC) of the metro corridor.

The scope of work includes rolling stock, communication-based signalling and train control systems, telecommunication, platform screen doors, depot machinery, and plant systems, along with five years of comprehensive maintenance after a two-year defect liability period.

According to the contract timeline, Phase 1 is expected to begin revenue operations within 108 weeks, while Phase 2 will take 200 weeks, with GOA-4 commissioning in 217 weeks. The comprehensive maintenance period will extend for seven years from commissioning.

The Make-in-India driverless metro trainsets for Line 5 will feature stainless-steel car bodies designed for enhanced durability, energy efficiency, and passenger comfort. Production will take place at TRSL’s state-of-the-art facility in Uttarpara, Kolkata, which is already engaged in manufacturing rolling stock for metro projects in Ahmedabad, Surat, and Bengaluru, as well as Sleeper Vande Bharat trains for Indian Railways.
