Trump asks US tech firms to stop hiring Indians, setting up factories in China as ‘those days are over’

Date:

United States President Donald Trump has called out the US technology companies for hiring workers from India and setting up factories in China, urging them to focus on US for future business activities.Speaking at AI Summit in Washington on Wednesday, July 23, Trump criticised the tech firms while asking them to focus on America and its citizens.
“Many of our largest tech companies have reaped the blessings of American freedom while building their factories in China, hiring workers in India and slashing profits in Ireland, you know that, all the while dismissing and even censoring their fellow citizens right here at home,” Trump said.
“Under President Trump, those days are over,” he added.

Trump’s remarks come while reiterating his “America first” policy. He has been increasing his efforts in terms of setting up manufacturing units in the US, and negotiating tariff agreements with countries, focusing on no rates being charged on the US products.

Trump also signed three executive orders related to artificial intelligence (AI), while stating that the US started the race for AI and it will win it.Read more: China defends building dam on Brahmaputra amid rising concerns of water control

“America is the country that started the AI race — and as President of the United States, I’m here today to declare that America is going to win it,” he said.

“Winning the AI race will demand a new spirit of patriotism and national loyalty in Silicon Valley and long beyond Silicon Valley,” he added, while calling for the US tech firms to act in the favour of the country and “putting America first”.

He said that for a long period of time, much of America’s tech industry pursued a radical globalism that left millions of Americans feeling distrustful and betrayed.

“We need US technology companies to be all in for America. We want you to put America first. You have to do that. That’s all we ask,” he stated.

The three orders that the US President signed are related to promoting the export of the American AI technology stack, accelerating federal permitting of data centre infrastructure, and preventing woke AI in the Federal government, as per the White House.
