Trump to monitor Israel-Iran from Situation Room, dismisses Macron’s ceasefire claim saying it’s ‘much bigger than that’

Date:

US President Donald Trump, amid his early exit from the G7 summit in Canada, has remarked about securing a “real end” to Iran’s nuclear programme. In an interview with CBS, President Trump said he would monitor the conflict in the Middle East from a situation room in Washington, DC. Trump is also considering sending either Vice President JD Vance or Steve Witkoff, Special Envoy to the Middle East, to Iran for negotiations.

Trump’s next plan of action for the Iran meeting will be finalised when the US President returns to DC.
Criticising French President Emmanuel Macron’s remarks about his early departure, Trump took to his social media account on Truth Social to say: “Publicity seeking President Emmanuel Macron, of France, mistakenly said that I left the G7 Summit, in Canada, to go back to D.C. to work on a ‘cease fire’ between Israel and Iran. Wrong! He has no idea why I am now on my way to Washington, but it certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire. Much bigger than that. Whether purposely or not, Emmanuel always gets it wrong. Stay Tuned!”Trump has already urged civilians to evacuate Iran’s capital, Tehran, following escalating violence.

“Simply stated, IRAN CAN NOT HAVE A NUCLEAR WEAPON. I said it over and over again! Everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!” he said on Truth Social.

On June 13, Benjamin Netanyahu-led Israeli government launched airstrikes on Iran, killing the country’s highest-ranking military officer, chief of the elite Revolutionary Guards Corps and a former national security chief. Moreover, Israeli officials have not ruled out the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

In an interview with The Wall Street Journala senior Israeli official said the assassination of Iran’s top leadership is “not off limits,” and stated that the conflict would only end if Iran dismantles its nuclear program or if Israel renders it inoperable.

Meanwhile, reports suggest that President Trump rejected an Israeli proposal to assassinate Ayatollah Khamenei during ongoing military strikes.

US officials, speaking to Reuters, said Washington has been in continuous communication with Israeli leadership since June 13. The officials added that the US does not intend to target Iran’s Supreme Leader.

Iran, for its part, has told regional mediators Oman and Qatar that it will not engage in ceasefire talks with Israel while military operations are ongoing.
