Ukraine is home to a vast and strategically important mineral wealth, largely due to the Ukrainian Shield, a 2.5-billion-year-old geological formation rich in essential raw materials. The country has deposits containing 22 of the 34 critical minerals identified by the European Union, making it one of the world’s most resource-rich nations, according to a report on The Conversation.  Here’s a look at the key minerals in Ukraine: (Image: Shutterstock)

Lithium | The Shevchenkivske deposit in the Donetsk region, along with the Polokhivske and Stankuvatske deposits in the Kirovograd region, are significant sources of lithium, which is essential for electric vehicle (EV) batteries. The Shevchenkivske deposit alone contains an estimated 13.8 million tonnes of lithium ores. With demand for lithium expected to increase 40-fold by 2040 and prices soaring in recent years, these reserves hold immense market potential. (Image: Reuters)
