Leading economist Professor Jeffrey Sachs has cautioned India to be wary of the United States’ intentions, suggesting that the US might be looking to exploit India for its own geopolitical gains.Speaking at the Rising Bharat Summit, Sachs, a renowned author and educator, advised India to be cautious in its dealings with the US, stating, “The US wants to use India, clearly. It wants to use India to beat up China. Don’t play the American game.”
He strongly advised India against becoming a pawn in this strategic rivalry.
Further elaborating on the US approach to foreign policy, Sachs stated, “The entire US foreign policy is divide and conquer in any part of the world.”Sachs argued that India is already strong and influential enough to chart its own course. He emphasised that India does not need to rely on alliances to assert its global position.

“There is no alliance there. India is anyway too big for alliances. You are an alliance in and of yourself,” Sachs said.
He concluded his remarks by saying, “I don’t think I have to give advice to India. It’s a little superfluous. But just be careful.”
