“We stopped seven wars, actually the real number is ten. One of the biggest was India and Pakistan — it was next level, could have escalated to a nuclear war. It took just 24 hours to stop it. I used trade as leverage,” Trump stated.
Trump emphasised that his intervention prevented the crisis from spiralling out of control, citing the use of trade pressures as a key factor.“We told both India and Pakistan that if they continue fighting, we wouldn’t engage with them at all. They were possibly on the verge of nuclear escalation, and stopping that was crucial,” he said.
However, the Indian government has consistently refuted claims of any external mediation in the ceasefire agreement.
The government has maintained that de-escalation was the result of direct negotiations held at the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO)-level talks between the two countries, without any third-party involvement.
