US President Donald Trump’s Aberdeen Golf Resort reports 13th straight year of losses

Date:

Donald Trump’s golf resort in Aberdeen, Scotland, has recorded its 13th consecutive year of losses, despite higher revenues and continued investment in the property.According to filings from Trump International Golf Club Scotland Ltd, the company posted a full-year loss of 937,693 pounds in 2024, narrowing from 1.43 million pounds in the previous year. Revenue rose to 4.48 million pounds, up from 3.75 million pounds in 2023, aided by greater spending on tournaments and marketing efforts.

The resort, located at Menie Estate north of Aberdeen, was purchased by Trump in 2006 and has reported losses every year since opening in 2012. The company attributed the latest results to ongoing investment in the development of a second course at the site.

“Ownership remains steadfastly committed to their vision for the property and confidently foresees a positive fiscal improvement as the impact of the investment activities flow through,” said director Eric Trump, the former US president’s son, in the company’s statement.Earlier this year, Trump inaugurated a new course at the Aberdeenshire resort, dedicated to his late mother, who was born in Scotland before emigrating to the United States.

Trump, who owns two golf properties in Scotland, has also been lobbying for the British Open to return to his Turnberry course in South Ayrshire. Turnberry last hosted the tournament in 2009 but was removed from the Open’s official rotation after the January 2021 attack on the US Capitol by Trump supporters.

The Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews, which organises the championship, has cited infrastructure and accommodation concerns for not reinstating Turnberry as a host venue.
