Varun Chakaravarthy joins India’s ODI squad for series against England, Jasprit Bumrah left out

Date:

Mystery spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has joined India’s ODI squad for the three-match series against England that gets underway from Thursday February 6 in Nagpur.   Meanwhile pace ace Jasprit Bumrah has been left out from the 16-man squad.Chakaravarthy’s inclusion into the ODI squad comes after his stellar show in the recently concluded T20I series where he was adjudged the Player of the Series for claiming 14 wickets.

Bumrah was made part of the squad but was only expected to play the final match of the series in Ahmedabad on February 12. The fast bowler was given a special exception because he is recovering from a back trouble that flared up during India’s Test tour of Australia last year.  Harshit Rana was kept as a backup bowler in case Bumrah failed to be fit enough to play.

Most of the players who are part of the squad will also be featuring in this month’s ICC Champions Trophy. Chakaravarthy and Bumrah’s participation in the tournament however at this stage remains unclear.India’s updated squad for ODI series against England: Rohit Sharma (C), Ꮪhubman Gill (VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (WK), Rishabh Pant (WK), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohd. Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Varun Chakaravarthy.
