I witnessed a young Indian student being deported from Newark Airport last night— handcuffed, crying, treated like a criminal. He came chasing dreams, not causing harm. As an NRI, I felt helpless and heartbroken. This is a human tragedy. @Indianembassyus #immigrationraids pic.twitter.com/0cINhd0xU1

The clip shows the student forced to the ground by at least four people, two of whom kept their knees on his back. While sharing the post, Jain tagged the Indian Embassy and External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, seeking help for the student.According to Jain, the boy was speaking in Haryanvi and insisted he was not insane, but the authorities were attempting to make him appear that way.
“These children arrive on a morning flight with a visa. For some reason, they fail to explain the purpose of their visit to the immigration authorities there, and they are sent back on an evening flight, bound hand and foot like criminals. Every day, 3-4 such cases happen. Things have gotten worse in the last few days,” he added.
Later, the Indian Consulate in New York addressed the situation and stated that they were in touch with local authorities. “We have come across social media posts claiming that an Indian national is facing difficulties at Newark Liberty International Airport. We are in touch with local authorities in this regard. The Consulate remains ever committed to the welfare of Indian Nationals,” it said.

The post received a large number of comments from users, with one writing, “Indians should avoid going to the US even for a tour. When you are treated worse than animals, what is the reason to be there? Let the Indian born senators in the US lick the shoes of Trump and the goras. They don’t dare to protect these students.”
“Is very painful, Sir. But this is what other foreigners in India are going through, and a lot are in deportation camps all around India, suffering. We must all work together to make sure there is peace and harmony among us because we are One,” read another comment.
Speaking with NDTV, Jain said, “There were about 50 people around, but nobody dared to say anything. The reason I think he was pinned down is that he was a little violent, and he was feeling disoriented. I don’t know why he was disoriented.”
This comes as the US government intensifies its crackdown on international students, revoking visas without warning. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, approximately 1080 Indians have been deported from the US since January 2025.
