This moment marked Usha’s entry as the first Indian-origin Second Lady of the United States. Her husband, JD Vance, took the oath as the 50th Vice President alongside Donald Trump, who was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States inside the Rotunda of the US Capitol.
Usha’s proud expression has since gone viral on social media.

Usha, born to Telugu immigrants from Andhra Pradesh, has had a distinguished career as a lawyer. She graduated from Yale University and Yale Law School, clerked for Chief Justice John Roberts, and worked for a leading law firm handling civil litigation and appeals.
Usha and JD met while studying law at Yale University and married in 2014. In his memoir, JD Vance credited her as his guiding force through Yale University and professional life.
Having initially been a member of the Democratic Party, IANS reported that she switched her allegiance to the Republican Party after getting married.
