The PIB fact-check team mentioned the identity shared by Pakistan matches that of Rauf, who has been part of LeT’s senior leadership since at least 1999.
“The identity details shared by DG ISPR completely overlap with the details of Hafiz Abdur Rauf, a member of LeT’s senior leadership since at least 1999 and part of the US Sanctions List,” it added, along with a link to the US Sanctions List, which named Hafiz Abdur Rauf as a designated terrorist.
The clarification came after the US-designated global terrorist was seen in a viral video leading funeral prayers for terrorists killed in the Indian airstrikes during Operation Sindoor on May 7. These strikes were conducted to avenge the killings of 26 individuals in Pahalgam in April.
Who Is Hafiz Abdur Rauf?

He has long been associated with LeT’s front organisation, Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD). Despite not being related by blood to the LeT founder Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of the November 2008 Mumbai terror attack, he has worked closely with him for several years.
