The 20-year-old, also known as Shahzeb Jadoon, was arrested in Canada on September 4, 2024. He is scheduled to make his first appearance in a US court on Wednesday, June 11, in New York.
In a post on X, Patel wrote, “Major news… earlier this afternoon, Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, a Pakistani citizen residing in Canada, was extradited to the United States on charges of attempting to provide material support to ISIS and attempting to commit acts of terrorism.”

In the fall of last year, Khan…— FBI Director Kash Patel (@FBIDirectorKash) June 10, 2025
Patel added that Khan allegedly tried to enter the US to commit an attack on the Jewish community in New York City. “In the fall of last year, Khan allegedly planned to travel from Canada to New York and carry out a mass shooting in support of ISIS at a Jewish Centre in Brooklyn. Khan allegedly planned his attack to occur on October 7, 2024 — the first anniversary of the Hamas terrorist attack in Israel,” he added.
However, his attempts were foiled and he was arrested by Canadian officials on September 4, 2024, before the attack could be carried out. “Thankfully, the great work of FBI teams and our partners exposed those plans and shut them down — and Khan was arrested by Canadian authorities on September 4, 2024. He has now arrived in the US and will face American justice,” he added.
He cited the case as a reminder of the “constant threat of terrorism facing every corner of the world,” and warned of the “disturbing rise in threats against our Jewish communities.”
“Your FBI will continue to be on guard and work around the clock to counter them.”
Patel specifically thanked the FBI offices in New York, Chicago and Los Angeles for their collaboration with partners in addressing these threats.
According to the Department of Justice, US Attorney Jay Clayton for the Southern District of New York said that Khan intended to use automatic weapons to kill as many members of the Jewish community as possible in support of ISIS.
“Khan’s deadly, antisemitic plan was thwarted by the diligent work of our law enforcement partners and the career prosecutors in this office who are committed to rooting out antisemitism and stopping terror. Thanks to their efforts, Khan will now face justice in New York,” Clayton added.
