Zelenskyy ready to meet Putin in Turkey; hopes for ceasefire with Russia ahead of planned talks

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenksyy said he is hoping for a full and temporary ceasefire with Russia starting Monday, May 12, and added that he plans to be in Turkiye to negotiate with Russian President Vladimir Putin “personally.”In a post on X, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine expects the ceasefire to begin on Monday, as it would provide the necessary foundation for diplomatic efforts to end the war.

Ukraine, along with its European allies, has called on Russia to agree to an unconditional 30-day ceasefire beginning Monday, prior to any formal negotiations.Zelenskyy’s remarks came after US President Donald Trump urged Ukraine to accept Russia’s latest offer for direct talks in Turkiye, scheduled for Thursday.It remains unclear whether Zelenskyy’s attendance in Turkiye is contingent on the ceasefire being in place by Monday, PTI reported.(Edited by : Priyanka Deshpande)
