‘Zohran is the future’: Elon Musk endorses Democrat candidate for New York mayor

Date:

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk, who once was a strong Trump ally, has now endorsed Democratic candidate for New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani.

“Zohran is the future of the Democratic Party,” Musk wrote on social media platform X, reposting a video in which New York Governor Kathy Hochul staunchly endorses Mamdani. Hochul, who urged New Yorkers to vote Mamdani for the position of New York City’s mayor, both are in support of addressing the affordability crisis.

However, Musk is singing a different tune by vouching for Zohran as the future of the Democratic Party after having mocked the party several times in the past.

It should also be noted that by praising Mamdani, Musk is endorsing the mayoral candidate who expressed readiness to take the Trump administration to court if required.

Musk was the biggest donor in Trump’s presidential campaign, having given $288 million in funding for the 2024 election. This cemented a quick friendship with US President Donald Trump and a sudden entry to the White House, followed by an equally dramatic fallout over disagreements over Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill. Musk eventually exited the White House in late May.

Mamdani is an Indian-origin candidate and son of political scientist Mahmood Mamdani and popular filmmaker Mira Nair.
