Delays expected as airlines issue waiversCancellations and delays could continue through Wednesday as airlines issued winter travel waivers for affected airports, according to Fox Weather. By Tuesday morning, more than 8,300 flights across the US Northeast had been delayed or cancelled. On Monday, more than 5,706 flights within, into or out of the United States were cancelled, most in New York, New Jersey and Boston.
Passengers were advised to check flight status with airlines and airport websites before travelling. Airlines asked passengers to contact carriers to confirm flight status, leave early and allow extra time. Travel waivers allowed affected passengers to change dates.

A state of emergency was declared for New York City, Long Island and Westchester County ahead of the storm. Officials said, “The city is in emergency response mode.” They added, “All drivers should avoid roads so our plows and emergency vehicles can do their jobs.”
The storm brought heavy snow and strong winds to the region. Weather warnings urged residents to remain indoors. The system moved into Nova Scotia, Canada, while another system was forecast to bring snow and icy conditions to the Great Lakes and the Northeast by midweek, with cold conditions expected to continue.
