ACME Solar shares jump 8% after commissioning new battery storage project in Rajasthan

Shares of ACME Solar Holdings Ltd. gained more than 8% on Friday, March 13, after the company announced the commissioning of a battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Rajasthan.ACME Solar, through its subsidiaries, has commissioned 142.67 MW / 481.49 MWh of BESS capacity in phase 1, out of a total planned capacity of 585 MW / 2,011.24 MWh under these special purpose vehicles (SPVs).

Overall, the company’s current renewable portfolio requires the installation of nearly 17 GWh of battery storage capacity in multiple phases across different states.
The BESS project, located in Rajasthan, is connected to the operational Inter-State Transmission System.In the near term, the facility will operate on a merchant basis, allowing the company to generate additional revenue by leveraging the price differential between peak and off-peak power demand hours.

Over time, the storage systems will be integrated with the company’s firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) projects, which will operate under long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) of up to 25 years.

Battery energy storage systems help enhance grid reliability and optimise power utilisation by storing electricity during periods of low demand and releasing it when demand peaks. This capability is increasingly important for balancing supply and demand while improving overall grid stability.

Shares of ACME Solar Holdings were trading 6.74% higher at ₹256.25. The stock has gained about 8% so far this year.
