A 19-year-old boy from Maharashtra’s Amravati district has been arrested for allegedly recording and circulating obscene videos involving minor girls. During the investigation, officials recovered over 100 videos.Authorities have also demolished parts of the accused’s house. According to police, the accused, identified as Ayan Ahmed Tanveer, had allegedly recorded the videos without consent and later circulated them on social media platforms.
The incident happened in Amravati’s nearby towns, Paratwada and Achalpur, which are about 180 km from Nagpur.
Ayan allegedly made relationships with minor girls by pretending to be close to them or ‘luring’ them emotionally. After gaining their trust, he is said to have sexually assaulted them and even allegedly recorded videos without their consent. He reportedly used the videos to blackmail the victims.Police also suspect that another person may have helped record the acts.So far, eight victims have been identified. However, some local political groups claim that around 180 girls were targeted and over 350 videos were recorded. Some groups also mentioned that the accused was earlier associated with Asaduddin Owaisi’s AIMIM.Police have seized Ayan’s mobile phone and other digital devices and several objectionable videos have also been recovered. Forensic experts are also trying to recover deleted data that may contain more evidence.”During interrogation, inputs led to another suspect who is also being questioned, and that 18 videos and 39 images have been identified so far.”Dr Anil Bonde, Rajya Sabha MP and BJP spokesperson Shivrai Kulkarni have filed a complaint and accused the police of delay. They also threatened to protest if the authorities did not take swift action.Amravati Rural SP Vishal Anand said, “Police are monitoring posts of those who downloaded videos that are recirculating.”The accused was taken into custody and booked under Section 294 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, relevant sections of the POCSO Act, and the IT Act, 2000.He has been sent to police custody until April 21.
