BHEL signs tech transfer pact with DRDO lab for naval systems

Date:

State-run engineering major Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) said on Tuesday, April 28 it has entered into a licensing agreement for transfer of technology (LAToT) with the Naval Science & Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam, a constituent laboratory of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

The agreement pertains to the gas turbine–infrared suppression system (GT-IRSS) for naval vessels. Under the pact, BHEL will undertake fabrication, installation and commissioning of the LM2500 gas turbine infrared suppression system, which has been designed and developed by NSTL-DRDO in India, according to the exchange filing.

The company said the agreement is domestic in nature, while financial and other key terms remain confidential.

BHEL added that the technology transfer will support its diversification into the defence segment and aligns with the government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative by strengthening indigenous capabilities in naval systems.

Recently, BHEL reported a provisional and unaudited turnover of around ₹32,350 crore for FY26, registering an 18% year-on-year growth.

The company also clocked strong order inflows of approximately ₹75,000 crore during the year, taking its total outstanding order book to about ₹2.4 lakh crore at the end of FY26.

BHEL’s core power segment continued to drive growth, with order wins of around ₹59,000 crore, highlighting its strong positioning in the sector.

Shares of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited ended higher on Tuesday, April 28, by 1.73% at ₹354.60 on the NSE today, April 28.
