Borosil Ltd on Wednesday, March 11, said production at its borosilicate glass furnace in Jaipur has been temporarily suspended, and operations at its opal glass furnaces have been scaled down after Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) restricted LPG supplies, citing a force majeure situation.

The company said it received a communication from OMCs informing it of supply curbs due to disruptions in global fuel supply triggered by the ongoing conflict in West Asia.

The restrictions have affected LPG availability, which is a key input for Borosil’s glass manufacturing operations, stated the exchange filing.

As a result, production at the company’s borosilicate glass furnace used for pressware products at its Jaipur facility has been halted for the time being, while opal glass furnaces at the same location are operating at reduced capacities.

Borosil said it is coordinating with OMCs and relevant government authorities to secure LPG supplies and ensure continuity of production to the extent possible. The company is currently assessing the financial impact of the disruption.

The development comes amid growing concerns over a potential LPG shortage in parts of India. Reports from several cities have indicated panic buying and long queues at gas stations, as fears rise that the ongoing conflict in West Asia and disruptions around the Strait of Hormuz could affect global fuel shipments.

Authorities and state-run energy companies, however, have maintained that domestic supplies remain stable.

Shares of Borosil Ltd ended higher on Wednesday, March 11, by 1.09% at ₹256.00 on the NSE.
