CCI approves JSW Energy’s nearly ₹16,000 crore bid to acquire KSK Mahanadi Power

Date:

JSW Energy Limited announced on March 4, 2025, that it has received approval from the Competition Commission of India (CCI) for the acquisition of KSK Mahanadi Power Company Limited for nearly ₹16,000 crore. This approval comes after the Resolution Plan submitted by JSW Energy was approved by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) in Hyderabad.

In a regulatory filing, the company confirmed the development, stating, “Further to our intimation dated 14th February, 2025, we wish to inform you that the Competition Commission of India, on 4th March 2025, has approved the acquisition of KSK Mahanadi Power Company Limited by the Company pursuant to the Resolution Plan submitted by the Company, which was approved by the National Company Law Tribunal, Hyderabad.”

KSK Mahanadi Power, based in Chhattisgarh, owns and operates a 3,600 megawatt (3.6 gigawatt) thermal power plant in the state and uses domestic coal. The acquisition allows JSW Energy to enhance its generation portfolio, adding significant capacity and reinforcing its position in the Indian energy market. It also supports the company’s efforts to increase its renewable energy capabilities while strengthening its overall power generation operations.

The acquisition, part of JSW Energy’s strategic growth in the power sector, strengthens its footprint in India’s energy market.

The approval from the CCI paves the way for the completion of the acquisition, marking a significant step forward in JSW Energy’s expansion plans.

Shares of JSW Energy Limited ended 1.6% higher today at 481.40 on the BSE.
