Chennai Airport cancels 47 flights amid Cyclone Ditwah

Date:

Chennai’s airport cancelled 47 flights on Saturday, November 29 due to adverse weather conditions triggered by Cyclone Ditwah, airport authorities said.

The cancellations include 36 domestic flights and 11 international services, all grounded as a safety precaution at Chennai Airport. Regional routes to Tiruchirappalli, Madurai and Tuticorin were the worst hit, with multiple back-to-back cancellations.

International links to Colombo and Jaffna were also affected, with several flights operated by SriLankan Airlines cancelled.

Airport officials said more disruptions are likely as the weather system intensifies and advised passengers to check their flight status before travelling to the airport.

Sri Lanka is worst hit by the cyclone, triggering the worst flood it has seen in a decade. Landslide and flooding triggered by the cyclone has killed at least 153 people in Sri Lanka and more than half a million affected nationwide.
