Coal India gets to 20% of its full-year production guidance in the June quarter

Shares of Coal India Ltd. declined on Tuesday, June 1, as the company reported a decline in its production for the month of June and for the April-June quarter as well.Coal India’s overall production in June fell 8.5% from the same month last year to 57.8 MT, compared to an output of 63.1 MT last June.
For the June quarter, Coal India’s production declined by 3.2% to 183.3 million tonnes from 189.3 million tonnes in the same period last fiscal.
The overall production figure at the end of the quarter, is 21% of the financial year 2026 production guidance of 875 MT.India’s largest miner also reported a 7.4% drop in offtake to 60.5 MT in June, compared to 65.2 MT last year.

For the quarter, Coal India’s offtake fell 4.5% from the year-ago quarter to 190.1 MT.

Last month

the company said its environment-friendly coal transportation via first mile connectivity projects increased by 34% to 102.5 MT in FY25 from 76.5 MT in the year-ago period.The volumes were moved through 20 mechanised connectivity projects linked to the Indian Railways, up from 17 projects last year.

Coal India reported a net profit of ₹9,604 crore in the fourth quarter, surpassing Street estimates of ₹7,678 crore. It had reported a net profit of ₹8,572 crore in the previous year.

Its revenue of ₹37,824.5 crore was lower than the previous year’s ₹38,213.5 crore but marginally above Street estimates of ₹37,389 crore.

Its earnings before interest taxes depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) stood at ₹11,790 crore, beating estimates of ₹10,668 crore. Its EBITDA margin expanded to 31.2% from 28.53% in the year-ago period.

The board recommended a final dividend of ₹5 per share, bringing the total dividend for the fiscal year to ₹25.50 per share, which is 255% of the face value. This is in addition to the interim dividends of ₹15.25 and ₹5.25 per share declared earlier in the year.

Shares of Coal India were down 0.51% at ₹389.95 apiece. The stock has declined 2.44% in the past month.
