Delhi CNG price hiked by ₹3.89/kg to ₹86.98 from August 29; IGL cites soaring LNG costs

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) prices in Delhi and adjoining areas will rise by ₹3.89 per kg from 6 am on Saturday, August 29, after Indraprastha Gas (IGL) announced a fuel price revision amid higher input costs driven by elevated global LNG prices.Following the increase, the retail price of CNG in Delhi will stand at ₹86.98 per kg, compared with the current ₹83.09 per kg. The revised rates will also apply to neighbouring cities served by IGL.The city gas distributor said the hike was necessitated by a sharp increase in the cost of imported liquefied natural gas (LNG), a key component of its gas sourcing basket. Global LNG prices have remained elevated in recent weeks due to supply concerns and geopolitical tensions linked to the ongoing conflict in West Asia.”A significant portion of the gas supplied for CNG is sourced through imported LNG, making input costs sensitive to international market movements,” IGL said in a statement.“With international LNG prices remaining elevated and the cost impact becoming increasingly significant, a calibrated revision of ₹3.89 per kg has now become necessary to partially offset the increase in input gas cost,” the company added.Despite the revision, IGL said CNG continues to offer significant savings compared with conventional fuels such as petrol and diesel, making it an economical option for both private vehicle owners and commercial fleet operators.The increase is expected to raise operating costs for CNG-powered cars, taxis, auto-rickshaws and commercial vehicles across the National Capital Region.The new rates come into effect from Saturday morning and will be reflected at CNG stations across Delhi and adjoining markets.
