Shortly after storming back to power in November, Trump chose Musk to lead the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). But this move has caused controversy, with some claiming that Trump broke the law by allowing Musk to have a major role in federal decisions. They both have
denied accusations from Democratic leaders and liberal media that they are causing a constitutional crisis. They argued that their critics are actually the ones breaking the law.
“This is always their first move — they say, ‘He’s violating the Constitution’, but they don’t even know what they’re talking about,” Trump said during the interview. He argued that those making such claims didn’t “actually care about the Constitution.”
Speaking from the Oval Office, Trump stated that Musk would not be involved in any business decisions while serving as an advisor. Musk, in response, said he was primarily responsible for modernising government operations and contributing his technology knowledge to the administration.
Musk said the criticism they faced proves they were on the right track. However, he pointed out they were facing strong opposition from a large, unelected federal bureaucracy “implacably opposed to the president and the cabinet.”
Trump and Musk said their unexpected political partnership happened because they saw a chance to fix the system and strengthen democracy after Trump’s big win in the 2024 election.
