US President Donald Trump, on his Truth Social account, posted an image that appeared to style him as “acting president of Venezuela” after a dramatic series of events in Venezuela this month. The image circulated widely online, but the claim it purports is not reflected on the actual Wikipedia page or in verified public records. In early January, the US carried out a large-scale military operation in Venezuela, code-named Operation Absolute Resolve, in which Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were captured and transported to New York to face longstanding US indictments on drug trafficking and related charges.
The strikes involved multiple targets around Caracas, including military bases and strategic sites, and resulted in significant casualties.
Following the operation, Trump acknowledged the seizure of Maduro and said the United States would “run the country … until such time as we can do a safe, proper and judicious transition.”
He suggested that US involvement would include stabilising the Venezuelan economy and potentially opening the national oil sector to American companies. In the immediate aftermath, Venezuela’s Supreme Tribunal of Justice invoked constitutional provisions to designate Vice President Delcy Rodríguez as interim president, a development reported in international media and reflected in public records. Rodríguez has rejected US claims and denounced the intervention as illegitimate.

Trump’s post also came as he issued warnings to Cuba, stating that there would be no more Venezuelan oil or financial support flowing to the island nation, signalling broader geopolitical implications of the shift in control.
Despite the aggressive messaging online, Wikipedia does not show Trump as “acting president of Venezuela”, and no credible updates on the platform support that specific title. What exists instead is coverage of the US military action, Maduro’s capture and the contested interim leadership in Caracas.
