The ECB chief’s comments come after the Financial Times reported on Wednesday, February 18, that Lagarde is considering to close out her tenure early.
Lagarde told the WSJ that her aim is to maintain price and financial stability, as well as “protecting the euro, making sure that it is solid and strong and fit for the future of Europe.”
Lagarde’s tenure at the ECBSince taking office in 2019, her tenure has covered the pandemic shock, the eurozone’s inflation surge, and one of the most aggressive rate-hiking cycles in the bank’s history.
Lagarde led the International Monetary Fund from 2011 to 2019. She was the first woman to hold that post.
Her public career stretches back further. She joined the French government in 2005 as trade minister, later served as agriculture minister, and chaired key European and G20 finance meetings during the global financial crisis period.
