FIIs extend selling streak with ₹736 crore outflow as DIIs stay buyers

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) extended their selling streak to a third consecutive session on Wednesday, offloading equities worth ₹735.83 crore on a provisional basis, according to exchange data.Domestic institutional investors (DIIs), meanwhile, remained net buyers for a sixth straight trading session, purchasing equities worth ₹704.93 crore.

Exchange data showed FIIs bought shares worth ₹13,207.46 crore and sold ₹13,943.29 crore during the session, resulting in a net outflow of ₹735.83 crore. DIIs purchased equities worth ₹16,226.42 crore, while sales stood at ₹15,521.49 crore, translating into a net inflow of ₹704.93 crore.
The latest outflow was largely in line with Tuesday’s provisional figures, when FIIs had sold equities worth ₹739.69 crore. On the other hand, DIIs had bought shares worth ₹2,927.71 crore, continuing to provide support to the domestic market.

On the domestic front, benchmark indices ended modestly higher on Wednesday. The BSE Sensex rose 130 points to close at 77,185, while the NSE Nifty 50 gained 26 points to settle at 24,079, extending its hold above the 24,000 mark.The Nifty Bank advanced 296 points to 57,758, while the Nifty Midcap index added 177 points to end at 62,943. Cement stocks gained after a strong June-quarter performance from Nuvoco Vistas, with UltraTech Cement rising 3%. Metal and IT stocks, however, remained under pressure, with Hindalco among the top losers on the Nifty.

Separately, the rupee depreciated 16 paise to close at 96.32 (provisional) against the US dollar on Wednesday, weighed down by elevated crude oil prices and persistent geopolitical tensions in West Asia.

Week so far

FIIs have offloaded ₹4,537.79 crore from the cash market between July 13 and July 15, remaining net sellers in all three trading sessions. DIIs, meanwhile, have purchased equities worth ₹5,804.34 crore during the period, helping cushion the impact of sustained foreign outflows.
