From bitcoin to everything: How tokenisation is turning all assets into tradable assets

Date:

Lucy Gazmararian, Founder and Managing Partner of Token Bay Capital, said the tokenisation trend is reshaping global finance by making all kinds of assets tradable on blockchain infrastructure.“Essentially, what this infrastructure is doing is the act of making everything a token, and for all these tokens to now move on the shared infrastructure means that all different types of assets can essentially become financial assets because they become tradable,” she said.

Digital art and gaming objects, which saw a boom in 2021, are examples of such assets that are gaining traction again.

“There are use cases that extend beyond that. It’s not just limited to financial technology,” she said, pointing to areas like the Metaverse, NFTs, and creator-led economies.

Gazmararian said jurisdictions have been preparing for years to regulate crypto, and the US push in 2025 has triggered wider activity. Startups in payments and stablecoins are expanding rapidly after the first piece of US crypto legislation. Established payments firms are also acquiring blockchain-enabled stablecoin providers, setting off what she called “a gold rush to establish payments infrastructure.”

She explained that blockchain and AI together form the next layer of internet infrastructure for transferring value worldwide. Countries like the UAE are also moving ahead with initiatives such as the digital dirham, which will be issued by its central bank.

While regulation varies across countries, Gazmararian said the underlying direction is clear. “Blockchain is borderless. It’s a technology that’s meant to be decentralised and therefore immutable and censorship resistant,” she said.
