Gita Gopinath, the deputy managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) will be stepping down at the end of August after deciding to return to academic roots.She leaves over a year shy of the traditionally five-tenure of the post.
Gopinath posted on her official X handle saying she will return to Harvard University as Gregory and Ania Coffey Professor of Economics.
“I now return to my roots in academia, where I look forward to continuing to push the research frontier in international finance and macroeconomics to address global challenges, and to training the next generation of economists,” she said in her X post.
