Former RBI Governor & Second Principal Secretary to PM Modi, Shaktikanta Das, told the CNBC-TV18 Global Leadership Summit that India’s economy remains “sound, stable and resilient” even as global trade rules and geopolitics rewrite the international order.Speaking after being felicitated as an icon of the Indian economy, Das said India’s macro fundamentals and reform momentum set it apart amid worldwide uncertainty.Das highlighted three pillars for India’s forward journey. First, despite shifting global arrangements — where multilateralism is giving way to regional and bilateral accords — India’s economy has held steady. “When the world order is changing… the Indian economy continues to be sound, stable, and resilient,” he said.Second, Das said the government’s vision for Viksit Bharat 2047 is on track. He pointed to the swift implementation of next-generation GST reforms as evidence of political will and administrative follow-through. “The roadmap has been laid… several reforms this year have been undertaken, not only in GST but also in non-financial sector deregulation,” he told the audience, adding that more measures to ease doing business and boost competitiveness will follow.

Third, he flagged technology and start-ups as engines of inclusive growth. Das said artificial intelligence and digital innovation are spreading beyond metros into tier-2 and tier-3 towns, creating jobs and accelerating urbanisation. “The future looks very bright for India… jobs are getting created in the tier-two and tier-three cities,” he observed, calling urbanisation an “engine of growth.”
Closing on an optimistic note, Das urged the next generation to treat disruptions as opportunities. “Every challenge is an opportunity, and I am sure the current and future generations will capitalise on them to take India towards 2047’s Viksit Bharat,” he said. When pressed whether recent reforms were only a “trailer,” he smiled: “You will see many steps. Let me leave it at that.”Also Read: GLS 2025 | India emerging as a key player in global AI revolution, say expertsFirst Published: Nov 8, 2025 2:36 PM IST
