Groundwork set for bilateral agreement

India US Trade Talks Live: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US Vice-President JD Vance met for nearly two hours at the Prime Minister’s official residence in New Delhi. Following the meeting, a spokesperson from the Vice-President’s office said that India and the US had officially agreed on the basic guidelines for their trade agreement discussions.

India US Trade Talks Live: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US Vice-President JD Vance have welcomed the strong progress in trade talks between India and the United States.The two leaders met for almost two hours at the Prime Minister’s official residence in New Delhi. After the meeting, a spokesperson from the Vice-President’s office said that India and the US have officially agreed on the basic guidelines for their trade agreement discussions.

According to a statement from the US Trade Representative’s Office, “This announcement builds on the important steps taken since February 13, 2025, when Prime Minister Modi met President Trump and they decided to begin talks for a trade deal between the two countries.”

US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer confirmed that the terms of reference have been finalised. These will guide the talks on fair trade. However, he also raised concerns about the lack of equal treatment in trade with India.
