Following the meeting, a spokesperson from the Vice-President’s office said that India and the US had officially agreed on the basic guidelines for their trade agreement discussions.

After the meeting, a spokesperson from the Vice-President’s office said that India and the US have officially agreed on the basic guidelines for their trade agreement discussions.
According to a statement from the US Trade Representative’s Office, “This announcement builds on the important steps taken since February 13, 2025, when Prime Minister Modi met President Trump and they decided to begin talks for a trade deal between the two countries.”
US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer confirmed that the terms of reference have been finalised. These will guide the talks on fair trade. However, he also raised concerns about the lack of equal treatment in trade with India.
