GST taxpayers get 2-day extension for GSTR3B and GSTR1

Date:

Noting the technical glitches affecting the GST Network (GSTN) portal, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) announced a two-day extension for filing GSTR-1 and GSTR-3B returns for the month of January 2025.

According to the notification, this extension applies to returns for business activities undertaken in December 2024. The deadline for furnishing GSTR-1 details has been extended to 13 January 2025 for monthly filers. Quarterly filers under the QRMP scheme now have until 15 January to submit their returns.

For GSTR-3B, the filing deadline has been pushed by two days as well. Monthly taxpayers must now file by 22 January 2025, while QRMP taxpayers can file between 24 and 26 January, depending on their location.

The deadlines for follow-up returns, including GSTR-6, GSTR-7, and GSTR-8, were also extended.

The extension decision follows widespread complaints from taxpayers and professionals about GST portal malfunctions that hindered the generation and filing of returns.

Acknowledging these concerns, the GST Network confirmed the issues in a series of social media posts, assuring taxpayers that corrective measures were underway. It also announced that the portal is now functional.

This move aims to provide much-needed relief to taxpayers, particularly small business owners and quarterly filers, who faced significant challenges in meeting the original deadlines.

The CBIC’s proactive step is expected to ensure smoother compliance while addressing the systemic inefficiencies that caused disruptions.
