Nine bodies have been recovered while nine other individuals have been taken to hospital as Gambhira bridge collapsed in Gujarat’s Vadodara on Wednesday (July 9).The incident happened after a portion of the bridge located on the Mahisagar river collapsed around 7:30 am, as per news agency PTI. The reason for the bridge collapse is being investigated.
Several vehicles fell into the river and the rescue operation is underway, Padra police inspector Vijay Charan said.
Earlier in the morning, four persons were rescued and the operation was still on, Charan had said. At least four vehicles fell into a river in Gujarat’s Vadodara district.

Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. The injured would be given ₹50,000,” the statement further read.The state government has also announced an ex-gratia for the deceased and injured. “The state government will provide assistance of ₹4 lakh to the heirs of each person who lost their life in the accident,” CM Patel said on X (formerly Twitter).Additionally, each person injured in the accident will receive assistance of ₹50,000, and all treatment arrangements will also be provided by the state government.”I have spoken to the Vadodara Collector and have been instructed to arrange for immediate treatment of the injured and make arrangements on priority basis,” CM Patel added.
