Hundreds of thousands mourn Khamenei in Tehran; OPEC+ raises oil output quotas

US-Iran War Live Updates: Hundreds of thousands of Iranians gathered at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla on Sunday, July 5, to pay their final respects to slain Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and members of his immediate family, as Iran began days of mourning and funeral ceremonies.

Three of Khamenei’s sons — Mostafa, Meysam and Masoud — were seen praying beside the coffins, while Mojtaba Khamenei, who succeeded his father as supreme leader, did not make a public appearance.

The ceremonies are also being seen as a public display of continuity by Iran’s leadership following the assassination of Khamenei, who led the country for nearly four decades. His coffin is expected to be taken to Tehran’s Freedom Square before travelling to Qom on July 7, the Iraqi cities of Karbala and Najaf on July 8, and finally Mashhad for burial on July 9.

Meanwhile, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf described the recently signed MoU as a political and military “achievement for the Axis of Resistance”, claiming the US and Israel had been forced to acknowledge Iran’s regional allies.

In the oil market, seven OPEC+ members agreed to raise production quotas by 188,000 barrels per day from August, as Gulf producers recover from months of disrupted exports following the near-paralysis of the Strait of Hormuz.
