India holds talks to deepen trade with Turkiye, Bangladesh

Date:

India and Turkiye held the 12th round of Foreign Office Consultations (FoC) in New Delhi, following the last round held in June 2022 in Ankara.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs said that discussions focused on trade, investments, tourism, technology and innovation, energy, cooperation in educational and cultural fields, people-to-people ties, and the fight against cross-border terrorism.

While both sides undertook a comprehensive review of the current state of bilateral relations, they exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest and agreed to hold the next round in Turkiye on mutually convenient dates.

The number of Indian tourists travelling to Turkiye dropped 34% year-on-year from June 2025 to December 2025 after it came to light that Turkish-made drones were used by Pakistan against India in Operation Sindoor.

In a separate development, External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar met Bangladesh’s Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman in New Delhi and reiterated India’s desire to engage constructively with the new government and further strengthen bilateral ties.

Both sides agreed to explore proposals for deepening the partnership through relevant bilateral mechanisms.

They also exchanged views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, while follow-up official meetings are expected to take place at an early date. The Adviser on Foreign Affairs to the Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Humayun Kabir, was also present at the meeting.

Foreign Minister Rahman also met India’s National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval and Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri.
