India lifts wheat export curbs, allows shipments of wheat, maida, atta

India has removed restrictions on the export of wheat, allowing overseas shipments of wheat and durum wheat under specified HS codes with immediate effect, according to a notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) on Monday, August 24.The move allows exports of durum wheat, wheat and a range of wheat flour products, including atta, maida, semolina (rava/suji), wholemeal atta and resultant atta.The policy change comes after wheat exports had remained restricted, with the government previously limiting overseas shipments to safeguard domestic supplies and manage food inflation.The DGFT said the revised export policy would take effect immediately.The easing of restrictions is expected to provide greater flexibility to traders and exporters to access overseas markets, while allowing Indian wheat and wheat flour products to be shipped abroad under the specified categories.The changes have been made under the country’s foreign trade policy and export regulations, the DGFT said. First Published: Aug 24, 2026 2:32 PM IST
