Indian Ocean Conference: Resilience and shared prosperity amid West Asian conflict

Although the ongoing West Asian conflict directly impinging on the Indian Ocean coastal and littoral states, the emphasis of various leaders diverged depending on their divergent perceptions and geo strategic considerations, writes former diplomat Anil Trigunayat.

The 9th Indian Ocean Conference was hosted by Mauritius from April 10-12, supported by the Ministry of External Affairs and anchored by the India Foundation and its President Ram Madhav. The theme of the conference was ‘Collective Stewardship of the Indian Ocean’. Several leaders, including Mauritian Prime Minister Naveen Ramgoolam and Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar, along with several other Ministers addressed the conference underscoring the challenges being faced by the Indian Ocean, which is recording the highest warming. Vulnerability in the Indian ocean is expanding and deepening.
