Indian-origin doctor in Ohio sentenced to jail for secretly recording women in hospital restroom

An Indian-origin doctor has been sentenced to six months in jail after admitting to secretly recording women inside employee restrooms at Toledo Hospital in Ohio, US.Advait Deshmukh pleaded guilty to one count of attempted tampering with evidence and seven counts of voyeurism, reported WTOL 11. Along with the jail term, he was ordered to serve three years of probation and register as a sex offender for 15 years.

According to Fox 19, Deshmukh will be on active adult probation until June 2029.
Court orders probation and sex offender registrationJudge Michael Goulding directed Deshmukh to attend Sexaholics Anonymous meetings and continue treatment as part of his sentence. Deshmukh reportedly informed the court of his plans to relocate to Franklin County, Ohio, where he will remain subject to the same probation conditions and sex offender registration requirements.

The case began in June 2025, when a hospital employee found a cellphone hidden inside a box in a unisex restroom in Toledo Hospital’s Renaissance Tower. Prosecutors said that when the employee tried to remove the device, Deshmukh took hold of it and claimed it belonged to him.A joint investigation by ProMedica and the Toledo Police recovered 82 images from the phone that had been taken between February and May 2025. Investigators identified six victims but said there could be additional victims.

Doctor apologises during sentencing

Before sentencing, Deshmukh apologised to the victims. His lawyer urged the court to impose probation instead of a jail sentence, arguing that he had been undergoing therapy to understand and address the behaviour that led to the offences.

The case involved six identified victims. One of them, Lindsay, an employee at Toledo Hospital, told the court the incident had left her traumatised. She said she now checks restrooms for hidden cameras and continues to worry about where the images may have ended up.

“Not knowing what was done with the photos is enough to keep me up at night. As we all know, nothing is truly ever deleted,” she told the court.

Lindsay also said the violation continued during the investigation because investigators, lawyers and others involved in the case had viewed the images, and she did not know how many people had seen them.
